Photolog picked

I noticed that my photolog appears in Catherine Jamieson quick picks (as pick number 35) with a whole slew of other nice galleries. There’s a nice little preview too, so you’ll know just what kind of pictures to expect.

Christmas Ficus

Here is the time-honoured tradition of the Andersson household, the Christmas Ficus (plastic):

sunset

I’d just been at the post office to pick up the Firefly dvd-box, which Swedisc had sent as a registered letter. This meant that in order to get it, I had to show some form of ID. This made me unable to have it delivered to my door by regular mail until friday, and I just couldn’t wait that long. Nevermind that the post office is far, far away on the other side of town — for some reason.

Anyway, when I walked there I saw an amazing sunset. It was a bit like those old movies where the bad guy hides out in his oil field and Eddie Murphy comes along and shots everyone. Except that this experience was much prettier than those movies.

got all the snow we need

Outside, there’s even more snow now. For a while it was gone. No snow at all. A bit of rain but nothing heavy. Now, snow. Snow looks nice, and I have to admit that it’s a better option than the unbearable summer heat. After all, you can always add more clothes during winter but during the summer you can only remove a certain number before you run out of things to remove — and then it still isn’t enough. But that still doesn’t make it a good idea.

Snow and lots of it. It still drift downwards. Why? We got all the snow we could possibly need for the time being. So stop it. Woho-wa. It just did.

photofriday: gathering

As I’m still not comfortable enough to photograph any people, I had to go through my files and see if I could find something that had to do with a gathering. Sure, there where some to choose from. Most of them had pretty boring background though, not to the fault of the people in the pictures.

Full Moon Rising Already Up

Full Moon Rising
It is full moon tonight, and I couldn’t resist the urge to click a few photos. Now, I think I’m off to watch the Howling, or Ginger Snaps, or maybe even Dog Soliders. Which to choose, which to choose...

Photos of Boo

Boo‘s been in Las Stockholmia and taken photos with his new digital camera. And look, a blurry photo of Neil. I stand corrected, a few blurry photos of Mr Gaiman. (Cameras are fun.)

Just an excuse to use the camera

I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon. The bandwagon in this case being Photo Friday. Each Friday a subject is announced, and then it’s up to the photographer to interpret said subject and — if the dice Gods of chance are favourable — even take a photo and submit. It is however easier said than done, but it’s fun. At least it will give me something to aim the camera at, and that is never wrong. Hopefully, I’ll be able to forget about the oily and icky feeling left by participation in a [weekday]-meme.

Photo fix-ups

I spent an hour or two fixing things that had gone wrong with the previous (almost unused) photolog. Beside the galleries that consisted of pictures taken during a specific event, I added three categories for continuous updates.

I think it is a step in the right direction. I know there isn’t a way to comment the photos, but that’s a side effect of the fact that I update it — Shock! Horror! — by hand. I didn’t see any reason to use a clumpsy CMS to manage something I still need to resize and whatnots.

Just got a writers block

Photo <20021116 00:19> <Comments off>

Hallo.

Still pretty much alive, but I’ve been busy. There is no need to panic, I’ll soon finish the whole ‘favorite cover deal’ and do something more creative. I’ve been out, in the real world and done some of that pho-gra-phy. I’ve come to the conclusion that I like shadows and light. The shadows are the fun part, but you need light to have the shadows which is a bit of a downer.

Other people's photos

Photo <20021104 22:56> <Comments off>

Lately I’ve been surfing around and looking at Japanese photo-sites. Sometimes I don’t understand a thing but they tend to be rather straight forward in design so that isn’t really an issue. The main reason for my facination is that the people being photographed seem so natural, as if this was a normal procedure of their lives.

One site in particular has burnet itself into my link-list. Nippongraphica. It has a great portfolio, so for now forget the people category. Although it is good as well, it’s just portraits and they’re not as interesting to watch as the others. (102 portraids all shot in a similar fashion gets kind of boring after a while.) For instance the armour in portfolio five. Much light and much shadow. Or click ahead a few pictures to 5:09 and you’ll see a few houses in silhouette, three people and lots and lots of birds. But 5:10. Wow. That’s all I have to say.

The person responsible for the site also has a nice little link-bar at the side to other photograpgy sites, some which are quite good.

(Damnation! My fingers don’t work like they should today.)

Flooded rooftops

Movie still from Battle Royale

There was rain yesterday. Lots of rain. The air was once again breathable and you could move without feeling sticky. With the rain came the thunder, a phenomenon that I’m not so keen on. This ridiculous idea to have electricity strike down at the ground irregularly as well as at random is rather stupid.

The rain flooded the roof at the constructionsite across the road. I for one wouldn’t want to be standing under one of those drains, it looks as if the water hitting the head would be quite, quite painful.

Look out there

I’m still learning tons each day, but I’m starting to see a change for the better. Less and less photos suffer from blurriness or to slow shutter (with moving objects such as humans) which is a good thing.

Oh, and since there is fog outside I’m considering watching zombie movies all night long.

Snow pouder

snow and noise

You know the old song that starts with: “It’s cold outside / There’s no kind of atmosphere / I’m all alone, more or less.” Well, it is cold, so cold that some poor sod decided to dump snow on the ground again. It’s not much, but it is enough, in fact it is too much snow as it is. If someone wants some, I’ll mail it to you free of charge.

And across the street some other goons are busy restoring a school. Lots of noise.

Have Power, Will Write

For a brief moment, the Dreamcast stopped spinning and the punches on the tv-screen disapeared as it shut down. The entire house, as well as the rest of the town, darknened and the power was gone. Now, what to do when there is a powerdrain and nothing in what we call the civilised world no longer works?

a zorklamp enlightened

I simply don’t know. I, just and failry simple, don’t know. I’ve baught the myth of electricity to such a degree that I can’t imagine what to do without it. In oirder to “cure” myself I could spend a few days in a cabin out in the woods, but either I’d be etaen alive by the Evil Force or I’d go complete and utter bonkers. Besides, I would sneeze to death if I did this in the summer. The winter is right off, as I would freeze my ears into ice-cubes.

It's damn cold

Right now, there is a little bit of snow on the ground and this is how I feel:
