∞ or a small photo FAQ ∞

What cameras do you use? Photos are taken with one of three cameras. The Olympus C21000UZ which is rather nice. The long x10 Zoom and image stabilisator makes it a fun thing despite the mere 2.1MP sensor and noisy ISO400. It is also quite big and I've not used it in a while now. The other camera is a Canon Powershoot S50. The only thing I lack is larger memory, since this camera just rocks. It's small and efficient. (But please, don't mention the macro focus. That would be mean.) The last and oldest is a film camera: Fokina DX PC1000. Film however, costs money. Money I don't have.

Why not more people? Because I'm still learning and am not comfortable enough to just whip it out. The camera I mean.

Colour? Composition? Etc. All photos I take are originally taken in colour-mode. This since the b/w-function in the camera tend to make the photo look very flat and lifeless, I prefer to do all that work in photoshop. But when I think about the end, it's almost always in black-and-white for some reason. I don't know why. Then I'd like to read Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosphers (amazon), the Art of Looking Sideways (amazon) as well as chapter 8 in the Elements of Typographic Style (amazon) for inspiration. The first two opens the mind while the third helps with the actual composition within the photo.

What software does the site use? The core of the gallery software is Stumpen Micro PHP Album 1.2 — one would assume that this long name would mean quality. It does not. In fact, it's rather crude and more or less consists of the PHP equvialent of bent bits and duct-tape. The comments is provided by a slightly tweaked DotComments. The photoBlog uses Pixelpost 1.3 which is rather nice.

What software? Photoshop, but the only filers used are Unsharp Mask and very, very rarely Gaussian Blur. When converting the photo from colour to black-and-white, I separate the layers instead of using a gradient map or convert to grayscale-option — because they don't do it too well. At least not the grayscale-option in the menu. I use colour-correction and layers too.
